What Are The Best Products To Use With A Spray Tan?
What kind of soap should I use with a spray tan? What moisturizers are best? Here are some products that can help to keep your spray tan looking fresh, fading better, and lasting longer!
One of my favorite products is Beessential Natural Body Wash. It is paraben, PEG, and sulfate-free, and is available in Lavender, Peppermint, Grapefruit, Spearmint, and my favorite - Sweet Orange. Beessential Body Wash is a great choice for both before and after you get your spray tan.
Another excellent spray tan friendly product is Puracy Natural Citrus & Sea Salt Body Wash. It rinses clean, so you can use it to prep before your tan, using a washcloth or exfoliating gloves. And it’s sulfate-free, so it’s safe to use afterwards because it won’t fade your spray tan the way some soaps can.
Dr. Bronner’s is another body wash that is always in my own shower. My favorite one is the Peppermint scent, but it also comes in Lavender, Tea Tree, Almond, Rose, Citrus Orange, Eucalyptus, and Unscented. As with the other recommended body washes, Dr. Bronner’s can be used both before and after spray tanning.
Shea Moisture makes an amazing line of natural beauty products, from body washes, lotions, and body butters, to shampoos and conditioners. Keep in mind, though, if you choose one of the body washes that is creamy and not translucent, that you should only use it for AFTER you get your spray tan. Because the creamy washes are extra moisturizing, if you use them before your appointment, it will create a barrier to the tanning solution.
Several of my clients with sensitive skin swear by CeraVe. It is Dermatologist Recommended, has The National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance, and is fragrance free, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and non-irritating.
All of the Hempz products smell amazing and are also at the top of the list of moisturizers to use to keep your spray tan looking great and lasting longer!
Coconut Oil is one of the best moisturizers that I have ever used, and I use it daily. When fractionated, it is liquid at room temperature, so it’s easy to apply, but the regular stuff that you cook with is great too!
Raw Apothecary Shea Butter is unrefined and additive free - nothing but all natural Shea Butter!
Viva Sweet Almond Oil is unscented and 100% pure. It is hexane-free and can be used by those with sensitive skin. It’s not only good for all over moisturizing, but it’s also a great, natural makeup remover!
Cocoa Butter is excellent for nourishing the skin - just what you want after a spray tan. There are many moisturizers that are formulated with cocoa butter, or you can use pure cocoa butter wafers! The smell is amazing (and somewhat addictive) for those of us who love chocolate!
In general, the best moisturizer is one you will actually use. Just make sure it isn’t medicated like Curell.
Two Spray Tan safe sunscreen brands are Sun Bum and Coola lotions. Don’t use spray on sunblocks, which can have ingredients that can cause speckling.
And finally, even most inexpensive body washes will usually work for your spray tan. The only real no-no’s are products that say “renewing,” “regenerating,” “anti-aging,” or “anti-acne.” And absolutely no Dove products whatsoever, please!
