Should I choose the Original 8 Hour or the Express Spray Tan?
One of the questions I get asked the most is “Should I do the 8 hour or the Express Tan?” And the answer usually is, “It depends.”
Most of the time, my clients prefer to get an Express Tan. Some of the reasons for this choice are:
You can shower a lot sooner with the Express Tan! The original tan requires you to wait 8-12 hours until you shower, but with the Express Tan you only need to wait between 2 - 4 hours until your initial rinse. If you’ve got somewhere to go and can’t stay in sweats or PJs all day long, the Express Tan is for you!
There are many more color tones to choose from with the Express Tan! With the 8 hour tan, there are 3 tones to choose from. But we have 11 different colors of Express Tan solution, so you can either choose the tone that is closest to your own skin tone, or you can switch it up, depending on the look you are going for! Some people like a more golden tan. Some like more bronze or brown. Some people need to even out yellow tones with a violet solution. It can seem overwhelming, I know, to have so many choices! But don’t worry… I will make sure that we discuss the options, and I will offer suggestions based on my 14 years of experience.
With the Express Tan, you don’t have to sleep in the solution. Some people have no problem at all sleeping with a fresh spray tan, but sometimes it can be challenging. If you tend to flip around a lot or sleep with your hand on your face or any other part of your body, you could land up with funky hands or blotchiness. I usually tell my clients that the best position to sleep in with a fresh tan is face up, in a starfish position. If this doesn’t sound do-able, consider choosing the Express Tan.
Some people feel that the Express gets darker, lasts longer and fades better on them. This is very individual, and it usually is a matter of trial and error to see which type of tan works best for your skin type.
Some reasons that clients may wish to choose the Original 8 Hour Spray Tan are:
The 8 Hour Tan costs less than the Express Tan. Because the Express solutions are more expensive for a spray tanning establishment, the customer charge reflects that difference. Most people feel that the convenience of the Express Tan is worth the higher price, but some folks prefer to save the extra bucks.
Some people tell me, “I’m not busy doing anything and don’t mind waiting 8 hours to shower.” If you don’t mind not being able to get wet or sweaty, and can stay in loose fitting clothing for the day, the 8 Hour Tan may be for you.

Whether you choose the Original 8 Hour or the Express Tan, you can be certain that the result will be a beautiful looking, long lasting tan! As always, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!
